The Home of the Filipino Coffee, Café de Lipa and the newly established Lipa Academy for Math and Science (LAMS) are hosting the 1st Lipa Academy Fencing Trophee to be held at Mt. Malarayat Golf and Country Club on August 18 and 19, 2012.
Expecting to draw around 1,000 spectators and fencers from all over the country, with top-notch university/college fencers, current and previous national team members participating, the Lipa Fencing Trophee is the biggest fencing tournament to date. The tri-weapon (foil, epee and sabre) competition will kick off with all individual events on the first day while the team events will be held on the second day.
“This year marks a good year for the sport to be promoted in Southern Luzon, especially in Batangas because our province is widely known for balisong (a Tagalog word for butterfly knife and a self-defense weapon) and closely associated with the term, barako—meaning a tough man,” declares Café de Lipa and LAMS President, J. Omar Mercado.
Fencing, a sport regarded as physical chess, and the art of swordplay, was incorporated by LAMS as part of the regular physical education program pioneered by its Academic Vice-President Ms. Sylvia Linglingay Mercado, citing its important contribution in the holistic development of every student.
The event is also brought to you by Enervon, Summit Water, 100 Plus Isotonic Drink, BMW Philippines, Honeywell Philippines, Swordplay Sports Trading Inc., Wave Sounds & Entertainment, Unilab, The Philippine Fencing Association, Hotel Cara, Mt.
