Online on Maundy Thursday: Go for Virtual Visita Iglesia

It has been a longtime tradition for Catholics to go to seven churches and recite the Stations of the Cross. Although it’s been normally observed on Maundy Thursday, there are those who opt to visit churches any day during the Holy Week.

Why seven? Seven is a significant number as associated to Jesus Christ’s seven last words, seven wounds, and the seven scriptural events to His capture. Since there are 14 Stations of the Cross, people recite two stations per church. Some even visit 14 churches if they can.

But if in case you can’t go out to do Visita Iglesia for several reasons, go online and try the virtual Visita Iglesia. We know you’ve heard of it before but if you’d like to give it a try, perhaps you can do now.

Visita Iglesia online - PhilippinesYou can access the virtual Visita Iglesia via VisitaIglesia.net, a project put up by the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP). This online Visita Iglesia is perfect for Filipino Catholics abroad and those who cannot go out of their houses to do the actual visit.

There are several churches across the Philippines featured on the site which gives you 360° view of each one.

Whichever way you choose to observe the Holy Week, make the most out of it and give time to contemplate on the true meaning of the Lenten Season.

Have a blessed Maundy Thursday.
