The name of the town Tingloy, according to myth, came from a plant named “Tinghoy”. Being the lone island of Batangas, the first to settle to the town were believed to be people from Taal and Bauan presumed to escape Spanish conquistador. They settled down in different places around municipality which believed to be the origin of the barrios today. It is said that the barrio of Tingloy was founded by Jose Martinez, a Taaleño.
The island went to series of political alliance arguing which of the neighboring towns own Tingloy. It was a part of the Municipality of San Luis at first then in 1917, it was placed under the administration of Bauan until 1921 until it gained its independence.
People were taught at home during the Spanish regime but on American Regime, schools were already established. Mr. Ireneo Martinez and Mr. Flaviano Gamben initiated the construction of the model schoolhouse on 1921 at the present poblacion of the Municipality of Tingloy.
President Ramon Magsaysay issued Republic Act No. 1344 (House Bill No. 11) creating the Municipality of Tingloy on June 17, 1955. It was authored by Hon. Numeriano U. Babao, Congressman of the 2nd district of Batangas and appointed Atty. Ramon De Claro as the first mayor of the municipality.
