Earlier today, I read an article from Inquirer.net written by Eusebio S. San Diego, founder of Kapisanan ng mga Gurong Retirado (Kaguro). It was all about the dilemma of teachers in carrying out their responsibilities in the national elections.
In the coming national elections, teachers are again off to face election duties and everything that goes with it. Stories of harrassment and killings, sadly, have been part of Philippine elections. How many teachers risk their own lives in fulfilling their duties in every election? Will the coming election promise security for the lives of these professionals who are tasked to protect the secrecy of ballots?
On May 10, we will have the automated election for the first time. Are all teachers prepared to man the new voting system? I just hope fingers won’t be pointed to these teachers in case the automated election won’t be effective.
There are a lot of groups right now who urge everyone to push for a clean and honest election. I hope that teachers would also get the same support that would somehow protect them as they perform their tasks for the sake of every vote that will determine the outcome of the May 2010 elections.

i have long admired “our” teachers. when i was young, i even dreamt of becoming one. in fact, i still do. i see how passionate they are to instill in the minds of the young every beam of wisdom, every ray of knowledge and every glint of love. it is just now when i fully realized that their services would extend to the safeguarding of our votes, which entails the future of this country. i hope our teachers will be safe. truly, they will bear the brunt in the coming days. Our teachers are duty-bound to take good care of our votes at their personal expense. While I pray for their safety, I’ll keep my fingers crossed for in their hands is the future of this nation. Let’s protect our teachers. Let’s make it a fair share. ^^,
Mr. Sharingan, i hope that people would also realize what you have pondered on. Let’s pray for the safety of the teachers and the rest of the people who would man this coming election. 🙂
