Women’s Day Celebration (8 March 2009)

Each year on 8 March, hundreds of International Women’s Day events occur all around the world. They events range from small random informal gatherings to large-scale highly organised events. All celebrate women’s advancement and highlight the need for continued vigilance and action. International Women’s Day may be a day of global celebration but there is no room for complacency as women continue to face inequity on many fronts. And now, we can see how IWD looks around the globe.

Of course, we all know how women long time ago were treated- plain housewives to be who do deserve nothing aside from the fact that they need to learn all the house choirs just to serve their future husbands who in turn will just take them for granted. Women who do suffer from injustice, physical injuries and all that. Women whose voice were being supressed and not aloud to be heard by anybody. Not until the time came that women were seen an a living individual who also deserve to live a life out of a man’s shadow. The time when the beauty and value of a women were realized and appreciated and that was also the time, women were not under estimated by any man and were treated equally. Time really changes all things, and now, even through technology many women are connecting up and sharing their views, opinions and stories.

And here comes another day to celebrate the International Women’s Day. And here in the Philippines, women do actively participate in this said festivity. Here in Batangas, women are so lively and cooperative in commemorating in the said spree. Batanguenos Women’s Day is composed of all the “Samahan ng mga Kababaihan” from the 105 barangays. It is a program established by the City Mayor, Eduardo Dimacuha which is being supported and run by DSWD. Well, as a part of the said celebration, there will be a mass at 7:30 in the morning in the Basilica followed by a parade, of course starting from the Basilica up to the Colliseum of Batangas.

Hey, for all those women out there, Happy Women’s Day!
