SM City Lipa spearheads talk on breastfeeding

With the theme, Supporting Breastfeeding, SM City Lipa organized another talk on the importance and benefits on breastfeeding at the Foodcourt Area of SM Lipa last August 18. The event started with the welcoming remarks given by Ms. Liza F. Dimaculangan, SM City Lipa Assistant Mall Manager and a member of the SM Supermalls Breastfeeding Committee. This was followed by an inspirational speech given by Dra Corazon Sabile, OIC of the Lipa City Health Office, who was also present during the launching of the Breastfeeding Station in SM City Lipa last year. Another message was given by the first lady of Lipa and president of MA Sabili Foundation, Bernadette Sabili.

To introduce the benefits of breastfeeding, celebrity doctor Dr. Ken Dalisay shared his expertise on the field which was followed by a discussion with the audience. Afterwards, husband and wife Carlo Maceda and Derlyn Maceda shared their experience in breastfeeding and how a husband’s support plays an important role for a successful breastfeeding.

This event was made simulatneously among all SM Supermalls nationwide.

SM Foundation and Harbest spearheads farmers training at Lipa City

SM Foundation and Harbest Inc. recently launched the Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan Farmers Training Program at Southern Tagalog Integrated Agricultural Research Center (STIARC) in Brgy. Marawoy, Lipa City last August 11, Wednesday.

Attended by the different municipal/city agriculture officers and farmers in the Province of Batangas like Tanauan, Lipa, Rosario, Padre Garcia, San Juan, Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas, Malvar, Cuenca, San Jose and Sto. Tomas, this undertaking aims to assist the vegetable farmer participants by providing them with options or alternatives to improve their income through the production of high-value commercial crops; production of high-value commercial vegetables suited for lowland conditions; the transfer of modern technology in vegetable production through the use of plastic mulch, organic fertilizers and organic pesticides, thus producing bio-safe commodities and potentially opening the market for organically produced vegetables; and development of a market match for the vegetable farmers through SM and supermarket chains.

Early in the morning, the program started with the ceremonial transplanting of seedlings at the demo farm led by SM Foundation Assistant Vice President for Outreach Programs Cristie Angeles, SM City Lipa Assistant Mall Manager Liza F. Dimaculangan, SM Supermarket Lipa Branch Manager Danz Xyrus Magadia, Lipa Agricultural Experiment Station Superintendent Dr. Gavina Huelgas, and Harbest Agribusiness President Mr. Toto Barcelona. Afterwards, the participants went to the training hall where Ms. Cristie Angeles presented an overview and history of Kabalikat sa Kabuhayan. According to Angeles, the program was the original concept of SM Founder Henry Sy Sr. who aims to help uplift the lives of Filipino Farmers. Mr. Toto Barcelona, further reiterated that he can still be caught in awe when he remembers the time he was personally asked by Mr. Sy to lead the farmers training. Barcelona said that the success of each trainee will depend on themselves, such that to be successful, one should have the determination, perseverance and discipline.

The training program consists of lectures and hands-on training of the participants using the concept of the Farmers Field School, which is a group-based learning process that incorporates concepts and methods from agro-ecology, experiential education and community development.

Rock Toon Fest at SM City Lipa

The Events Center of SM City Lipa was invaded with today’s favorite cartoon character in SM children’s Wear Department’s Rock Toon Fest.

The day started with the search for the Rock Toon Fest Models where kids aged 3-12 years old took part in the go-see session where a total of 94 kids, all dressed in Original Toon Fest Apparel participated. With the following criteria: Natural Beauty 30%, Personality 10%, Attire 20%, On-camera appeal 20%, Modeling skills 20%, twenty kids were given the chance to model at SM City Lipa and were able to receive a P500 worth of SM Gift Card. The best Rock Toon Fest Models will be part of the Grand Fashion Show at the SM Mall of Asia on September 12, 2010.

In the afternoon, a Rock Toon Race was also held where Aaron Amir Aguila emerged as the champion. Aaron received a Nokia 5130 Express Music handy phone while the runner-ups – Laurenz Mari Repaso, Reena Faith Cruzat, Joshua Calingasan and Marie Elaine Lascano received Go Gear Mix MP3 Players.
