What organization were you part of when you were a student? Or are you now a member of the drama guild, the math wizard circle, the student publication, or the glee club?
There could be hundreds of student clubs and organizations here in Batangas as there are a lot of schools here. Which one do you belong to?
This morning, I was invited to talk about some topics on journalism for the student journalists of The Mabini Academy. The division press conference is scheduled tomorrow so I have to take the role of a motivational speaker to boost their self-esteem and of course, share some tips on feature, news, and editorial writing.
Then I asked the staffers why they joined the Excel (their school paper). Some said ‘trip lang’, some didn’t even respond. Meeting young people who have the passion and the skills for journalism is quite an elating experience for a wrtiter as me.
Being part of an organization provide students with a lot of lessons that could last a lifetime. Whatever organization a student may be part of, they would learn a thing or two about handling responsibilities, dealing with different people, and doing their tasks not just for personal development but for the betterment of the majority.
There are students who join clubs or organizations just because they are required. Some join just for the heck of joining. Some, to gain new friends, new learnings, new experiences. Others, for the sake of belongingness.
Whatever your reason for joining, make sure you aim for growth. Know how to balance your academics and extra-curricular activities. Be part of a valuable circle. Expand your horizon.
