How to Deal with Holiday Depression

Holiday blues. I saw an article on Yahoo! and it was featured on Mel and Joey. How many people are dealing with Holiday depression?

When days become colder, signalling the dawning of the Christmas season, our moods become affected somehow. But there are a lot more reasons why some people get lonely despite the festive spirit of Christmas.

Feeling like the Grinch? Nah, discard negativities. Imagine how huge your heart can get and with that huge space, fill them with the best feelings in the world.

Some people get the blues because of the lack of resources to celebrate. Money matters are considered important during this season. How are we going to buy gifts if we don’t have the luxury of it? How are we to celebrate Christmas when we can’t even eat thrice a day?

Money is important, we all know that. But money isn’t everything. We may not have the luxury of it but if we know how to at least make the most out of what we have, we’ll get by.

Missing your loved ones on the other part of the globe? Whenever Christmas comes, they are the ones who get lonelier than us. They are the ones who will spend Christmas away from home. They are the ones who will be waiting for the photos to be uploaded of you and your family celebrating Noche Buena. Imagine how lonely it could get having a white yet an incomplete Christmas.

Having other personal troubles? It’s not mandated that everybody will be in the party mood come Christmas time. But the people around you will still convince you to at least smile. That’s the least you can do, no matter how negative your feelings are.

Go to church. When everything else fails, run for cover and find a peaceful retreat in the house of God. Sometimes, all it takes is a minute of closing your eyes and submitting to Him all that’s bothering you. Christmas is about Him. We owe Him every single day of our lives. Giving Him a few minutes should not feel like a sacrifice.

This season, let’s look back on everything that has happened throughout the year. There are a lot of things that made us smile, let’s be thankful for all of them. Still having the chance to celebrate Christmas is one great gift itself.

Ward off the holiday blues. Happiness is a choice. Let’s all have a merry Christmas!
