Pardon us for doing so but we’ll have our own year-end list to share. You might be sick of all the lists you’ve been seeing or hearing all over the media but that’s how it will always be at the end of every year.
This list include the trends on fashion, music, movie, technology and gaming, and anything else that we Filipinos went loco for.
If you think we missed out something, the comment box is free for your thoughts.
Pick-Up Lines
If you haven’t tried delivering one, message me and I’ll gladly reply with “Bakit?”. It was probably due to the hit chick flick of 2010, Toni Gonzaga and John Lloyd Cruz’s My Amnesia Girl that 2011 was romanticized by cheesy pick-up lines.
The Azkals Mania
It was a good year for the Azkals as the support of the Filipino fans grew warmer and stronger. As a whole, it was a good thing – both for pumping up the interest of Filipinos in football and for an apparent unified glory.
Of Wizards and Witches, Action Heroes, and Vampires
Harry Potter’s last installment brought hysteria to fans. It was a remarkable decade for J.K. Rowling and the HP gang and true enough, the magic lives on. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 reigns the Top-Grossing Films of 2011.
November 18 was a bloody date this year as Twi-hards flock the cinemas for the biggest romantic movie of the year. Breaking Dawn Part 1 is among the most searched movies of 2011 and the 3rd Top-Grosser of the year.
2011 was also a big year for action flicks. Among the top-grossers are Transformers: Dark of the Moon, Captain America, and Thor.
Gods of Gadgets
Apple’s iPad 2 and iPhone 4S were among the most wanted this year. Samsung smartphones are not far behind with the Galaxy series it released this year. Blackberry still belongs to the much preferred mobile phones list. Oh, DSLRs ruled as well both for the pros and the hobbyists.
Angry Birds Collectibles
Okay, I gave away an Angry Bird collectible this Christmas. Why not? The infamous Rovio Mobile game ruled the world in the last quarter of 2010 and had carried on its popularity up to this year. Now, they’re not only visible on your mobile gadgets, they also dominated the offline commercial market as well.
Facebook Unlimited Upgrades
How I wish my Timeline won’t get activated. Nakakaliyo pala. Anyway, Facebook still dominates the world of social media. Either you want the changes that Zuckerberg and his team initiate or not, you still can’t get enough of updating your profile.
Vice Ganda’s Remarks
The Showtime Unevictable Hurado is among the stars who made it big this year. Kung pikon ka, wag mong papakinggan o kakausapin si Vice Ganda. Yun lang. Period. Bawal ang erase.
Planking and Dougie Dance
This year, it’s either you went crazy still with planking or your body moved like jelly on Teach Me How to Dougie’s very urban beat.
Online Shopping
Taking business online became so huge this year. From clothing, to accessories to gadgets to almost anything you can see on malls and supermarkets — you can actually buy them online. It has been around for years now but online shopping has only gotten better and bigger.
Statement Necklaces, Platform Shoes, “Dangkal” Shorts
Fashion – as Vogue put it – is ephemeral, meaning it only lasts for a short period of time. But fashion is a cycle and trends will just keep on coming back. So tossing a favorite item once it ran out of style is not very practical. Who knows? Your future grandchild might love to inherit your fashion pieces.
Long necklaces – with pendants that vary from miniature camera, to animal pendants like owl and peacock, to vintage-looking pocket clock and photo locket – are favorite accessories this year. Platform shoes also did a comeback and “dangkal”/micro-mini shorts (daisy dukes) are also huge hits of 2011 fashion trend.
