“We want to make it sure that all the patrons of SM, including the breastfeeding moms and their children will be given the opportunity to enjoy the mall.”
These were the words of SM City Lipa Assistant Mall Manager, Liza F. Dimaculangan during the inauguration of the second breastfeeding station last Sept. 15, at the mall’s food court area.
Among the guests of the said events were Lipa City Councilors Bibong Mendoza, who also represented Cong. Dong Mendoza; Concon Hernandez, who also heads the committee on Women’s Affairs at the Sangguniang Panglungsod; Dr. Corazon M. Sabile, OIC of Lipa City Health Office and coordinator for breastfeeding in Lipa City; and Ms. Tessa Pesa, Chief of Lipa City Social Welfare and Development Office.
The advocacy on breastfeeding was addressed by Dr. Elvira Henares-Esguerra, director of the NGO Children for Breastfeeding and Ms. Nona Andaya-Castillo, director of Nurturers of the Earth. Both Castillo and Esguerra are certified international lactation consultant and has been working with UNICEF in promoting breastfeeding here in the Philippines.
Also present in the program are Atty. Ipat Luna and son Alon, 7 , who was breastfed until he was 4 years of age.
The blessing and ribbon cutting ceremony followed and was officiated by Rev. Fr. Dexter Mojares.
