ABOUT MCB

MCB is the acronym for our school, Mabini College of Batangas. Originally named Mabini High School and offering secondary education, it carried that name from June 1948 to March 1969. In April 1969, college department was opened and it was renamed Mabini Junior College. Limited mobility on the part of the students, faculties and administrators due to scarce electricity and transportation in and around the town at that time, inevitably led to the phasing out of the college. The school was then named Mataas na Paaralang Mabini from June 1974 to March 2002. Progress and fast development of the town of Mabini marked the fruit of good education and paved the way for the reopening of our college department. Our school became Mabini College of Batangas in June 2002.

MCB was founded by a group of educationally-minded people from Taal and Lemery. The original incorporators of the school were Miss Josefa Kasilag, Dr. Domingo dela Vega, Mr. Primitivo Ilagan, Mrs. Conchita A. Lualhati, Mrs. Aurelia C. Solis, Mr. Marciano K. Solis, Dr. Martin K. Solis and Miss Waldy K. Solis. The lack of school building prompted them to rent the two houses of Mr. Julian Bautista and Mr. Zoilo Evangelista of Poblacion. The school started classes in June 1948 with 196 students, 8 teachers and one employee. Eleven students graduated in 1950. On July 1, 1950, full government recognition was given to Mabini High School.

When enrollment started to swell, the school owners were forced to construct a 10-room building in 1952 at the site where it is now. The next ten years was marked by remarkable progress. To accommodate the increasing population, the school-house was remodelled into a two-storey building with 18 spacious rooms on August 15, 1961. From 398 students in 1962, the school population rose to all-time high 1,477 in 1982.

The first president of the school was Dr. Martin K. Solis. He was succeeded by Dr. Domingo dela Vega, Miss Josefa Kasilag, Mrs. Conchita Lualhati, Mr. Felix K. Solis, Mrs. Vicenta S. Carandang, Mr. Marciano K. Solis, Miss Waldy K. Solis and Ms Aida Solis Domicillo (incumbent) in that order. Atty. Godofredo Carandang was the director of the school from its founding up to 1964. Miss Waldy K. Solis was the school’s principal from 1948 to 1969. She was the school’s Directress from 1969 to 1981. The principal during her directresship was Mrs. Francisca S. Salazar. In May, 1981 Miss Solis and Mrs. Salazar retired and left new administrators—Mrs. Zenaida M. Calangi, Principal, Mrs. Belen C. dela Rosa & Mr. Genciano T. Maramot, Assistant Principals.

In the school year 1969-1970, the College Department was opened. Bachelor of Arts, Commerce and Secretarial courses were offered. Mabini High School then became Mabini Junior College. Miss Waldy K. Solis was the Dean and Directress. Government recognition was given to the college on July 7, 1969. In the same year, the first issue of the “BRAINS,” the official school organ was published with Miss Juanita M. Maramot as first Editor-in-Chief. Transportation and electricity problems made the continuance of the college for another four years a losing proposition. The college was phased out in 1974. The Mabini Junior College became Mataas na Paaralang Mabini.

Time flew and changes were non-stop. In 1982, the MPM Kabataang Barangay School chapter, on its officers initiative, launched a very laudable and ambitious project—fund-raising solicitation campaign to help finance the contruction of a multi-purpose auditorium. It was a 5-year program. A project proposal was prepared by the KBSC officers headed by Donato D. Matibag, under the supervision of their adviser, Mr. Genciano T. Maramot and was approved by school principal, Mrs. Zenaida M. Calangi in November, 1981. To make the project legal, the proposal was submitted to the Regional Education Development Officer, KBROC IV, together with the request for exemption from issuance of solicitation permit under Sec. 2 of PD 1564 to Sec. 4 of PD 1191. They were approved on December 16, 1981.

A full-blown solicitation campaign was made. The funds solicited were insufficient for the construction of an auditorium. This did not shatter the tenacity and foresight of Miss Waldy K. solis, the “if-there-is-a-will-there-is-a-way” school president. The school borrowed on half million pesos from a rural bank. And the multi-purpose auditorium was built. It was blessed on January 12, 1985.

Mataas na Paaralang Mabini is a dream come true, for it boasts of a two storey building standing majestically in blue and white, housing a very rich library, two well-equipped physics and chemistry laboratories, an impressive auditorium and a pristine chapel manned by forty-four efficient teachers, administrators and other employees taking care of one thousand three hundred and forty students who will soon follow the footsteps of their thirty five thousand nine hundred forty predecessors scattered around the country and the world

To sustain the influx of ever increasing school population, four standard classrooms were constructed above the auditorium in 1992. In 1993, a concrete fence was built around the school building. In 1995, every room was installed with electric fans and in 1996; sixty thousand pesos worth of turbo fans were installed in the roof of the main building. In 1999 and 2001, four air conditioners were installed in the auditorium. In the same year the school purchased 61 ‘inch TV screen with complete accessories. The school has a generator reserved for brown or block out.

With the reopening of the college department on the S.Y. 2002-2003, there were many demands that needed to be met, so twice did the school board of directors adopt a resolution increasing the capitalization. This year, another resolution was again adopted to put in more capital, principally to meet the expenses that will be incurred in the acquisition of more library & laboratory facilities, construction of modernized school façade, quadrangle’s flooring and rest rooms’ accessories.

On April 30, 2003, Mr. Genancio Maramot, school director & principal, retired but that did not end his dedication to our school. He was appointed “temporary officer in charge of the college department and to this day, he is MCB’s college administrator and also got the appoint ment as the school secretary. Mrs. Leovy I. Candava, a native of Mabini Batangas, succeeded Mr. Maramot on May 2, 2003 as the school’s high school principal.

Here and there, the instinct for change did not cease. Mayor Rowell Sandoval launched a novel project – Community Modernization and Beautification Program. The first phase was done in Poblacion – construction of a uniformed two-unit commercial center building and our school was to be part of it. Since the construction of a two-storey building will entirely block the sight of our school, the Board of Directors headed by Mrs. Aida S. Domecillo and upon the advice and request of Miss Waldy K. Solis, asked Mayor Sandoval to let us construct an edifice that is suited to an educational institution. It resulted to a compromise – and a modern one-storey office building was built!
