ANIHAN FESTIVAL 2010
It was the team’s first time to witness the Anihan Festival and actually our first time in Lobo (the adventure to be told on a separate post). We were actually fortunate to celebrate the Anihan Festival and the town’s 139th Foundation Anniversary.
The Anihan Festival streetdance competition was participated by students from 20 elementary schools all over the municipality. Like most Philippine festivals, the streetdance competition highlights the the event and allowed the locals to showcase their talents and creativity.
The participants’ costumes were made out of raw materials from products which Lobo are known for. The creative costumes were adorned and/or made of buli, corn, coconut husk, anahaw leaf, and shells. Most of the costumes were also decorated with atis-inspired props.
It’s amazing how the pupils were trained to be so competitive at such early years of their lives. They were all worthy of applause and appreciation. These are the results of Anihan Festival 2010 streetdance competition:
Best Costume
1st place – Malabrigo Elementary School
2nd place – Lagadlarin/Olo-Olo Elementary School
3rd place – San Miguel Elementary School
Best Dance Presentation
1st place – San Miguel Elementary School
2nd Place – Sawang Elementary School
3rd Place – Mabilog na Bundok Elementary School
LOBO-MAKATI SISTERHOOD SIGNING CEREMONY
Meanwhile, the celebration this year was probably the most significant Foundation Anniversary to date since this year marked the sisterhood of Lobo and Makati City.
The sisterhood was made formal with the signing ceremony participated by the officials of both Lobo and Makati City. Before the signing ceremony, Hon. Jejomar Erwin “Jun-Jun” S. Binay and Hon. Efren B. Diona both gave their speeches before the town folks.
Mayor Jun-Jun Binay’s message talked about the finding commonalities and taking differences as opportunities to improve both Lobo and Makati City. Mayor Binay also addressed the extension of technical expertise and financial assistance from Makati City government to the local goverment of Lobo.
Mayor Diona in return, thanked Mayor Binay and his officials for choosing Lobo as their sister municipality. It was, according to Mayor Binay, because of a certain “Ate Ebeng” who has been with the Binay family for decades now, that they considered Lobo to be the sister municipality of Makati City.
It was a fruitful (figuratively and literally) celebration for the Loboans. Watch out for our next post: WOWBatangas Team’s road trip to Lobo!
