Getting up early in the morning is easier when you’re waking up by the beach. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and we were up for the third and final day of the 150th Founding Anniversary celebration of Lemery.
The last day was commenced with a fluvial procession. It was participated by people from the local government and town folks who believe that having this fluvial procession with the Mahal na Poong Krus and the image of Lemery’s patron saint, San Roque, is something “miraculous”.
Ma’am Tere, the Municipal Agirculturist of Lemery shared that in the experiences of the local fishermen, they’re having a good catch because of the fluvial procession which they do every year if circumstances permit.
The fluvial procession lasted for an hour which started on the shores of Brgy. Nonong Casto to Brgy. Sinisian West then off to Butong in Brgy. Maligaya. With the fluvial procession participants landing on the streets of the town proper, with the Mahal na Poong Krus and other religious images they’re holding, the street dance competition started.
There were 8 participating groups for the Sigpawan Festival competitions. All of these teams competed in the Street Dance Competition while only 6 joined the Court Dance Competition. As far as I can recall from all the festivals that we have covered (except from Ala Eh!), this is the only town festival that features contingents from other cities and municipalities. There was no home town representative from Lemery.
The participating groups were: (1) Tawilis Dance Group (Agoncillo); (2) Calacatchara Festival Dancers (Calaca); (3) San Luis Dance Group (San Luis); (4) Gregorian Dance Evolution (Laurel); (5) El Pasubat Festival Dancers (Taal); (6) San Nicolas Maliputo Dancers (San Nicolas); (7) Lomi Festival Dancers (Lipa City); (8) Buli Kidz (Taal).
Except for San Luis Dance Group and Buli Kidz, the rest competed in the Court Dance Competition.
Covering festival competitions goes beyond realizing the talents that young Batangueños have. There’s always that emotional factor that makes such competitions worthwhile. Alam mo yun, may kurot sa puso. In a positive way, that is. Nakakahanga at nakakaiyak kapag pinapanood mo yung mga bata na super effort sa pagsasayaw. The feeling is so overwhelming at nakaka-proud.
So here are the results of the Sigpawan Festival 2012 Street and Court Dance Competitions:

3rd Place — San Nicolas Maliputo Dancers (San Nicolas)
