January 13, 2010 – In line with Lipa Fiesta Celebration, the first ever basketball game between barangay captains around Lipa City, entitled “Fiesta KAP” was conducted in Lipa City Youth and Cultural Center, Lipa City.
Fiesta KAP 2010 was a joint project of the Fiesta Executive Committe headed by Mr. Joselito Tapay, Chairperson of Fiesta KAP 2010 – Councilor Con Con Hernandez, City Community Affairs Office, Mayor Oscar L. Gozos and Governor Vilma Santos-Recto.
The two participating teams were composed of the following Barangay Captains in Lipa City:
Team A (White)
Capt. Eddie Lacorte, Capt. Rommel Malaluan, Capt. Bunog Tolentino,Capt. Jone Zara, Capt. Boret Magsino, Capt. Aning Mendoza, Capt. June Fonte, Capt. Nestor Magnaye and Capt. Lito Pagcaliwangan.
Team B (Red)
Capt. Bakie de Guzman, Capt. James Dimaculangan, Capt. Rico Rocreo, Capt. Jerry Maralit, Capt. Benhur Rocafort, Capt. Romy Pesa, Capt. Joey Tolentino, Capt. Gener Mercado, Capt. Jose Cetron and Capt. Romeo Macabia.
Before the play-off, a short program was done. After the opening prayer and national anthem, Sangguniang Panglunsod, committee heads, organizers and guests were given the chance to address remarks and messages. Foremost was Hon.Con Con Hernandez, followed by Mr. Joselito Tapay, Hon. Bibong Mendoza, Hon. Nilo Catipon and Hon. Oscar L. Gozos.
The ball game was officially opened right after the ceremonial toss done by Hon. Gozos, Hon. Hernandez and Mr. Tapay.
A jump ball between Capt. de Guzman and Capt. Lacorte marked the start of the game. Players were highly motivated and energetic as the game started. After a couple of ball possessions and shots, Team B ruled the opening quarter scoring 14 points over the 9 points made by Team A.
During the second quarter, Team A could not be kept caged for long which resulted to score of 27-28, just a precarious 1 point lead for the Team B.
Meanwhile, during the half-time, Kabataang Lingkod ng Barangay (KALIBA) Talents performed a dance number for everyone’s entertainment.
Driven by heat and warm cheers from the audience, players boosted their spirits, hitting a tie score of 40 at the end of the third quarter.
On the fourth and final quarter, both teams ran strong to have the ball possession but the tight defense of Team A managed them to take the lead until the clock hitted the final buzzer thus declaring them as the Champion of Fiesta KAP 2010. 56-52 was the recorded final score.
Both Team A and Team B received a trophy and cash worth P20,000 from Governor Vilma Santos-Recto.
