Viva Sto. Niño! The Colorful Celebration of Batangas City Fiesta 2013

With the theme, “Luntiang Lungsod ng Batangas: Karangalang Baon sa Matatag na Bukas”, the celebration of the Batangas City Fiesta was a blast, as it has always been throughout the years.

The day started with a parade composed of different floats, street dancers from various schools and organizations in Batangas City, and school bands who jived their way to tour the busy roads of the city. We ran to catch pictures of the parade and the people involved. All I can say is that the colorful parade, plus the cheering crowds made the feast a memorable one to all.

But before the day of the fiesta, here are the events that transpired in the festivities.

Pre-fiesta events

The feast started early December 27 last year with the Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas 2012 Motorcade followed by the Press Conference held at the SM City Batangas.

Sto. Nino ng Batangan Fluvial Parade Celebration took place on January 7, 2013 from 1pm to 5pm. The parade went throughout the main streets of the city. It featured cultural presentations from some of the best schools and colleges in the city.

The Children’s Art Competition also highlighted the week-long celebration of the Feast of Sto. Nino. It was held at SM City Batangas Event Center, followed by the Battle of the Bands at Plaza Mabini Ampitheatre, both held in January 10.

A Job Fair sponsored by Mayor Vilma Abaya-Dimacuha was also part of the celebration wherein Batangueños were given opportunity to look for jobs that suit their capabilities and skills. It was held at the Batangas City Convention Center from 8am to 5pm.

Aspiring photographers who wish to be recognized in the world of photography were given opportunity through the Photo Contest held at SM City Batangas from January 12 to 16.

Another highlight of the fiesta was the Barangay Caravan Videoke Challenge Grand Finals held at the Batangas City Convention Center.

Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas 2013

The main highlight before the fiesta was the search for Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas wherein different beauties from different municipalities and towns in Batangas City vied for the prestigious crown. They showcased their talents at the Batangas City Convention Center, January 13, 6PM.

Only five beautiful ladies stood out from the crowd. Hailed as 4th Runner-Up is Ms. Rosa Tanya Lontoc Arellano who also won the Best in Batangueña Costume award; 3rd Runner-Up is Ms. Angelica Baes Coliat of Soro-Soro Ibaba; Ms. Venus Colot Supul from Brgy. Cuta was hailed as 2nd Runner-Up and also got the special awards Ms. BDO Remit and Best in Native Costume; 1st Runner-Up, Ms. Tanya Montalbo Lodhi of San Jose Sico, bagged the Best in Swimsuit award and Ms. Citimart 2013.

The Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas 2013 is Ms. Mary Mariel Dedicatoria, the beauty from Arrieta Subdivision, Brgy. 20, Batangas City. She is a 17-year old Business Administration student from Batangas State University.

Truly, their beauties roamed all over the four corners of the Sports Coliseum that made the audience shout for their favorite contestant.

The pageant was not the only one that Batanguñeos waited for that night. Big stars from the Kapamilya network joined the big event as they sang, performed dance numbers, and joked around with the people present in the hall. Some of the artists who drew interest to the evtn were Richard “Ser Chief” Yap and Jodi “Maya” Sta. Maria of the kilig teleserye “Be Careful with my Heart”, the casts of Luv U, stand-up comedians Cacai Bautista and Bonito, Neil Coleta and Maja Salvador, the Star Power Ultimate Winner Angeline Quinto, and the pair from the phenomenal teleserye “Walang Hanggan” – Coco Martin and Julia Montes.

The Parade

After the wonderful night with the stars and the coronation night of the newly hailed Bb. Lungsod ng Batangas, the next day, the day of the fiesta itself, started early as the parade was set at 7am. Schools, the local government unit, and some non-government organizations in Batangas City joined the float parade. They even have dancers and cheerers that made the audiences go wild as they jived to the rythm and beat of their drums and tambourines.

All in all, the celebration of the Batangas City Fiesta was amazing and truly a success for everyone. It is one of the many activities that Batangueños should be part of even for once.
