Malacañang Palace declared Sept. 10 as special non-working holiday as it marks the end of Ramadan. President Aquino signed Proclamation 26 to declare Sept. 10 as non-working holiday.
The celebration of the last day of Muslim’s month-long fasting is called Eid ul-Fitr. Muslims observe Ramadan for 29 to 30 days where they fast and continuously thank Allah for what he has given them. They say that with the appearance of the crescent moon, the holy month of Ramadan will end and the time for celebration will by then commence.
Ramadan, this year, started on Aug. 11 and will end on Sept. 10. Eid ul-Fitr is a joyful celebration for our Muslim brothers as it is the time to end the fasting and start spreading love and happiness to the family members. They celebrate Eid ul-Fitr by saying special ceremonies or prayer on the mosque, wearing new clothes, sharing gifts, decorating their houses, and exchanging joyful greetings or Eid Mubarak (Happy Eid)with one another.
