What do you remember clearly on the many “first day of classes” you had been through before?
Are you the type who gets excited to go to school or are you the type who find it hard to get over the vacation that has ended? I’m a little bit of both.
First day of school means meeting old friends and making new ones. First day of school means everything is new — new uniform, new school supplies, new teacher, new classroom, new schedule. First day of school means new beginning — and every beginning means another adventure.
Oh no, you have to say goodbye to your summer vacation routine — getting up late, going to bed late. No more movie marathon and sleepovers. No more gimiks. Ang sad ano?
Graders are most excited with their new things. Of course, they have to have the latest and most mayabang school supplies so they won’t get left behind by their classmates. I remember when I was in grade school, I have to have a new bag each school year. I have to have at least one pink stuff inside my bag. The cuter your things are, the cooler everyone will think of you.
In high school, things change. Oh, here comes the first day high fever. High school students have different points of excitement when first day of school comes. Who wouldn’t want to be the first one to know the full name of that new girl in school? High school girls get excited to see their crushes and get on with their BFF bondings during breaks. First day of school means one of the best perks of being a student — getting allowance.
In college, first day of classes means new adjustment. Swerte mo kung maganda schedule mo. We get by without new things. Ako nga may isang semester na natapos na ballpen at pad paper lang ang gamit ko. And that’s what I love about college. You don’t need to buy too many stuffs; you can go to a class with just a pen and a paper with you. Unless required ka to but this and that.
Kasi when you’re in college, your investment goes to making yourself look good and to other things rather than getting one notebook per subject. Haha, yun ‘yun eh! Tipid tipiran sa mga gamit so you can buy a better, sturdier pair of shoes, a conversation piece bag, the latest makeup, and yes, to save some for a weekend gimik!
It’s the excitement really. Although I try not to sound like a teacher here, I’d like to leave a friendly reminder for students who are reading this. Take this opportunity seriously. There are kids who can’t afford to go to school and would want to be in your shoes for a chance to have a better life ahead.
Education is not just an opportunity, it’s a right. It’s your right. Believe me, this whole going to school thing and getting a degree will all pay off in time.
