This is not your fave primetime teleserye that we’ll be talking about. But if you’ve been following the series of exposé about the latest pork barrel scam, you’d most likely think that this story so big belongs to the big screen. Unfortunately, there are no cameras rolling. This is real life.
When I first heard about the name Janet Lim-Napoles, I wondered why the heck is she making headlines? Her name won’t ring a bell to most of us but for those whose lives evolve on the grounds of the Congress and the Senate, it may be too familiar.
Janet Lim-Napoles is the woman behind the P10-billion pork barrel scam. She allegedly owns a number of NGOs where pork barrel funds of some senators are going to. Reports say these NGOs are bogus.
So we all had the idea of who Janet Napoles is, the things she own, and what she might have done to get all of them. One filthy rich woman. And it struck me when I heard about Janet’s daughter, Jeane, who is living a life so luxurious like she’s some royal or A-list celebrity in Hollywood.
Wiki says: “Pork barrel is the appropriation of government spending for localized projects secured solely or primarily to bring money to a representative’s district. Typically, “pork” involves funding for government programs whose economic or service benefits are concentrated in a particular area but whose costs are spread among all taxpayers.”
I don’t know much about every detail on how congressmen and senators spend their pork barrel. But I clearly know that these funds are NOT their salary. Therefore, any amount from that fund should be appropriated to government projects for the benefit of the people and not to fatten their pockets.
Now that Janet Napoles is in hiding as more and more related stories are coming out, the public’s outrage intensified and surely cannot be tamed. With all this going on, investigators suspect that Janet may have undergone a surgery to alter her face. Oh again, this is real life.
While three senators were linked to Janet’s pork barrel scam, Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle shed tears on the issue.
