How To Safeguard Your Homes Against Burglars

burglarJust recently, i’ve been hearing stories of burglaries in Batangas. Home theives seem to be very active this month, just in time for bonuses and Christmas cash gifts. At any rate, these thieves are more easily thwarted if we Batanguenos know how to employ some simple security precautions.

  • Lock up your home, even if you go out only for a short time. Many burglars just walk in through an unlocked door or window.
  • Always draw the curtains before you leave home for the evening and leave a light on somewhere in the house. Leaving a bedroom light makes it look like someone is home probably reading or watching television.
  • Get dogs! Dogs can divert burglars from breaking in. If you don’t have one, you may simply post a sign, “beware of dogs” at your gate or window. Creating the presence of a dog is effective and inexpensive.
  • Bright exterior lighting can make your home extremely unattractive to burglars. Thieves operate best under the cover of darkness, so take away that advantage.
  • For the most effective alarm system, conceal all wiring. A professional burglar looks for places where he or she can disconnect the security system.
  • Keep windows free and clear from bushes, trees, or shrubs where burglars can hide and stake out your property or conceal their entry. Keeping shrubbery below waist-high reduces the ability for someone to effectively hide from view.

Now, if you are planning to go on an out of town or out of the country trip this coming holiday season, make sure that you have considered the following tips, unless you want to come back home without your precious jewelry, TV sets and all. Have a safe holiday Batanguenos!
