Love Teams From the 90s

If you’re as old as me then there’s a chance that you wouldn’t be amused by the Kim Chiu + Gerald Anderson, Enchong Dee + Erich Gonzales love teams which now proliferates our good ‘ol television.

Okay, I might be called a hypocrite if I say that I was not persuaded by the tweetums tweetums.

But really, comparing these love teams to the love teams of the 90s is a no brainer. I could do nothing but to miss the countless hours spent on watching 90s love flicks.

Hey, I am a 90s guy and there’s nothing the children from ages 15 below could do about it.

So join me as I recollect my kilig- kiligan days, let’s all fall in love again:

Kevin Kosme and Ason Madamba (Home Along Da Riles)

Bing Cosme and Azon Madamba

A person who is not familiar with Home Along ‘Da Riles is definitely not a friend of mine.

Dolphy and Nova Villa were King and Queen of television (at least for me) of the 90s. Their uncanny ability to fuse comedy and love in a single act is one of a kind.

Jolina Magdangal and Marvin Agustin

The Marvin Agustin – Jolina Magdangal love team has been very famous because of their partnership in numerous TV sitcoms, TV dramas and romantic-comedy movies. Their tandem started in the teen-oriented TV series Gimik in 1996. They starred in several hit movies, like Flames: The Movie (1997), Kung ayaw mo, huwag mo (1998), Labs kita… Okey ka lang (1998), Gimik: The Reunion (1999), and Labs ko si babes (2000).-wikipilipinas.org.

Vic Sotto and Cynthia Luster

See, I’m a huge Vic Sotto fan. And it all started when tons of his 90s movies were on cable TV. His movies were and still are epic which no Lastikman, Enteng Kabisote or any other 2000s movie of his could ever replace.

And when the bubbly personality of Cynthia Luster was added to the mix, one legend of a movie was created.

Rico Yan and Claudine Barretto

I remember My Dad when he strictly requires me to record each and every episode of Mula sa Puso on the proverbial VHS whenever he’s not home. My Dad’s a military officer, mind you.

And I think, because of that instance, I came to love Mula sa Puso from the bottom my heart.hehe. Mula sa Puso is the only teleserye I’ve watched from start to finish. Teleseryes can be manly too, I said to myself.

Bobby Andrews and Angelu de Leon

Bobby and Angelu were in tandem for seven movies in the 90s era alone making them one of the most visible and well loved couples in that time. A personal favorite of mine is “Wala na bang pagibig? which was released in 1997.

It’s not strange if Jaya’s voice comes into your mind.

Wowie de Guzman and Judy Ann Santos

Your TV must have some issues if you haven’t watched at least one flick of theirs.

Andre E + (Put any beautiful girl here)

Andrew E., when he still does comedy films, gives not so cute lads like me some kind of confidence.I mean, in all of his movies, he is paired with the materyales fuertes leading ladies. Great thing is, he’s no Piolo Pascual.

How I wish the 90s Philippine movie scene would come back.

The slapstick comedy, the not-so-technology-gyrated scenes, the very Pinoy dialogue, and the legendary actors are only some things the generation Y’zers have sorely missed.
