The 6th Tilapia Festival of the Municipality of Laurel, Batangas opened with a salvo of grandiose events and contests including the Float Parade and Street Dance, Holy Mass, Arko- Juan Sa Laurel- An Arch Design Competition, SigLunDaYog and Cultural Night yesterday, June 19.
The streets were adorned with towering arkos and colorful banderitas exhibiting the “under the sea” theme which highlighted the essence of the festival. Meanwhile, the SigLunDayog (Sigaw, Ludag, Indayog) contest showcased seven groups donning brilliant costumes who danced along to upbeat rhythms.
The Arko-Juan sa Laurel was participated in by all the barangays in Laurel. The arch design that is deemed champion will receive one million worth of barangay projects while the second and third placers will receive 700,000 and 500,000 respectively.
Coinciding with Laurel’s 55th founding anniversary, the Local Government Unit (LGU) imposed traffic rerouting and truck bans to give way to the three-day fest.
In a WOWBatangas.com video, Mayor Lyndon Masicat Bruce invited his constituents to witness and join in the fun of the 6th Tilapia Festival as it is a celebration of the municipality’s foremost industry- tilapia farming.
