Sacrifice, Silence, Selflessness (A Good Friday Reflection)

When Good Friday comes, the elders would tell you to stop being makulit, keep quiet, don’t go out of the house, don’t eat this, don’t do that. Who says you have to stop doing the usual things you do when it’s Good Friday? No one really tells you to stop your life, they just want you to pause for a while and think of the Big Guy up there who sacrificed His own life to save humanity.

We commemorate the day when Jesus Christ was crucified; the day when the Son of God gave up His life to save us from our sins. He endured the pain that weakened His human body yet never condemned people for what they had done to Him.

Have you sacrificed anything for others you barely knew? Sacrificed might be too much to bear for most of us. Have you given up something that matters to you to let someone else enjoy the benefit? Have you been selfless ever?

On Good Friday, people start to gather at 3pm to observe the Veneration of the Cross followed by the procession or the Way of the Cross. My mom and I had been joining the procession for years now. Previously with dad, until he was hospitalized in 2009 and he can’t go on long walks anymore. This year with my brother who served as the photographer (please bear with us, he used his cam phone for the inserted images) – thanks Drix!

I know each of us had been through tough, challenging times yet we’re still her. We managed to keep up and bounce back from each fall.
