“Whoever does not carry his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple” (Lk14:27). Following Jesus is very demanding. There are people and things you have to give up and leave behind in order to become his disciple. Hindi pwedeng sumunod sa kanya na nakakapit ka sa mga tao at bagay na maaring maging hadlang sa pagtahak sa landas ng pagiging disipulo. “If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother, wife and children brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple” (Lk 14:26). Iyan ang sabi ng Panginoon. Mabigat ba at mahirap? Hindi natin iyan maaring tawaran o pasubalian. Dumarating sa buhay natin na upang masundan natin si Hesus ay mapapawalay tayo sa ating mga mahal sa buhay. Maaring kung di mapawalay ay mapaaway dahil sa paninindigan nating sumunod sa Kanya. Maaring hindi nila tayo maunawaan. Subalit dapat laging higit ang pagmamahal natin kay Kristo, higit sa pagmamahal natin sa sinumang tao.
Let me quote the reflection of Fr. Gil A. Alinsangan, SSP in “365 Days With The Lord (2010)”: “Discipleship requires consideration of the personal cost of putting Christ at the top of my priorities…There is no place for the fence-sitters. One is either with Jesus or against him. Discipleship is not for the fainthearted but for the brave of heart. It is not for the lethargic and indifferent but for the resolute and committed.”
Kaya nga kung gusto mong sumunod kay Hesus dapat desidido kang ipaglaban siya at harapin ang lahat ng hamon na darating sa buhay mo. As the saying goes, “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” Planuhin mong mabuti ang buhay mo. Hindi pwede sa buhay-kristiyano ang ura-urada at kursu-kurssunada otherwise papalpak ka. Ang kailangan ay determinadong pagpapasya sukdulang iwan mo at talikuran ang mga tao at bagay na malapit sa iyong puso. Tunay, mahirap ito at “madugo”. Magagawa lang natin ito sa tulong ng biyaya ng Diyos.
