What Makes You Smile?

What makes you smile?

In the past days, we’ve been promoting this event for Havaianas called Design a Smile. It’s a flip-flop design competition for 5-12 year-old kids. You can check the event details by clicking SMILE.

Handling this event thought us a lot of things which will benefit the team in terms of events management. But what we’re thankful for is the realization that we’re actually doing something for the benefit of children we don’t know – children with facial deformities whose lives would change in time.

This event is for the benefit of Operation Smile Philippines. It’s an organization which helps kids with facial deformities by performing free reconstructive operation for them. Have you done something beneficial to others you don’t really know?

The tasks for this event may be tiring and exhausting but thinking of the kids who will receive the blessings from the efforts we’re exerting, we can’t help but feel blessed. It was fun and it was a fulfilling responsibility. Having the chance to share time and effort to help indigent kids have a normal and happier disposition makes us proud and happy.

So, what makes you smile? Everytime I ask kids what makes them smile, I would get various responses – mom, friends, toys, love… When we were kids, our happiness depends on how many times our parents would let us play outside the house; on the days we go to the mall or the carnival; on the toys we’d get as prizes for doing good in school.

But as we grow older, our source of happiness changes. But the reason still remains the same. We become happy and we smile if we get what we want. If we fulfill something we need or we want to do. How many of us gets happy by giving and not just by receiving?

On November 7, 2010 at SM City Lipa (10am-9pm), let’s join together and share some of our blessings to these kids who need our help. Let’s help Operation Smile create smiles on the faces of these Filipino children. And as Operation Smile puts it – “together, we create smiles, change lives, heal humanity”.
