The 2024 Lipa City Fiesta that centered on celebrating the noble life of her patron saint, San Sebastian, also held activities that highlighted the Lipeno culture, traditions, and people.
Lipa City Mayor Eric B. Africa and Lipa City Fiesta Committee Chairman Engr. Raul Montealto made sure that the ten-day event with the theme “Alay Kay San Sebastian: Dasal at Kasiyahan ng Pistang Bayan” was all-inclusive and was for each Lipeno and their visitors to take part in.
The ten-day celebration commenced on Jan. 11 through an academic contest aptly named EBA ang Galing: DepEd Academic Competition and a theatrical play entitled “Ang Lahat ng Ako: Dulang may Musika Patungkol sa Buhay ni San Sebastian.
The next day, appreciation for the Lipeno youth and children continued to pour in as Sanlibong Bata, Sanlibong Saya took place at GB Lontok Memorial Elementary School in Barangay Sabang. January 12 also held the Flavors of Lipa— a food fair featuring Lipeno treats and delicacies—and the Lipa City Barangay Night, which was celebrated at the famed Plaza Independencia.
The following days were home to an exhibition of local arts and music, as Lipa City Music Fest, EBA ang Ganda: Fabulous Makeup Competition, Lipa City Traje de Mestiza Fashion Show and DepEd Night: Pintakasi ng Lipa: Isang Parangal at Pagtatanghal, Kids Sing Galing Dance Craze Competition, are just some of the programs held that highlighted the Lipeno craftsmanship and artistry.
The first Lipa City Fiesta Barako Golf Tournament, “Tee off with Mayor Africa,” was also held at Mount Malarayat Golf and Country Club from January 16 to 19.
The morning of January 19 also hosted The 9th Mario Africa Sr. Memorial Chess Cup at the Lipa City Convention Center and was attended by Lipeno chess enthusiasts of all ages. The eve of the Lipa City fiesta witnessed yet again the traffic-stopping Yabangan Nights and also, in a separate event, saw Ms. Ruth Gabrielle “Gaby” Aguila Cabling be crowned the Mutya ng Lipa 2024.
January 20th, the feast day of Saint Sebastian featured the Grand Float Parade, Concelebrated Mass, Celebrity Basketball game and the Lipeno Night.
The 10-day celebration of the Lipa City fiesta was one for the books, as it truly engaged Lipenos with activities that honor St. Sebastian and the rich culture and heritage of the city.
