A PLACE CALLED MATUKO

Matuko. “Weird or funny name?” but for me this is one of the beautiful places here in Batangas.

The picture of this place is still fresh in my mind, a picture saved in my memory though it has been five years ago since I last visited or shall I say discovered the place. The place is called Matuko situated at Lobo Batangas.

Finding this place was just and accident, when I was still in college, in my photography class, I and my group need to have a beautiful place as a subject for photograph. We decided to go to Lobo because we’ve been hearing stories about how beautiful Lobo is. When we were on our way to Lobo, we noticed this weird kind of thing in the middle of the clear and bluish water not too far from the coast. After seeing this seemingly mysterious thing, we alighted from the jeepney and started tracing the path going to the said image. As we came nearer, the image becomes clearer. We have just found the perfect place for our subject. The serene and magnificent place called “Matuko”.

Here you can find a grotto 200 meters away from the cost, at the middle of the clear water. You can reach the grotto by means of walking along the rocks under the shallow water when its low tide or use bangka or boats when its high tide. The locals don’t really know why the place was called “Matuko”. I found it weird hearing it the first time. But as I explored the place, I just found myself stunned with its beauty.

The fun and adventure that I had going to the said place was quite a good experience. Seeing and preserving the beauty of the place called “Matuko” on my camera film is such a great memento I would sure to treasure forever.

By the way, I got a high grade in my photography subject with my Matuko shots. As for the picture, I’ll have it scanned first so I could share it with you here.
