We’ve had these food items for a long time now. Some, i don’t even know if they’re still available. They may be too small to fill your tummy and ease your hunger yet tasty enough to make your heart smile. Eh?
Here’s a tribute to our “pinakapatok na mamiso sa kanto”. Okay, so for those who wonder what ‘mamiso’ is, those are the small packs of junk food you can buy at any sari-sari store around town which cost only P1.00. Wait, they may have increased in price, I’m not sure if they’re still worth a peso in your place.
Watusi. No, not the fire cracker. Watusi (correct me if I’m wrong) is made of a type of noodle that’s fried and salted. It can stand alone without any dip whatsoever.
Boy Bawang. Oh how this corn snack became a huge hit! But before Boy Bawang, there was Corn Bits (I supposed the best-selling corn snack before) then Zesty and then after Boy Bawang there’s Bida. But Boy Bawang still claims the crown! Now they have large packs made for pulutan. 😉
Captain Sid. Can you still remember the effect the saltiness of Captain Sid on your lips? Haha. Captain Sid became famous for those who love watermelon seeds. Recall the excitement of opening these seeds while competing with your friends. Paramihan ng mabubuksang butong pakwan na walang iping masasaktan. 🙂
Ding Dong. Before Ding Dong Dantes even became famous, this one was a hot item first. Ding Dong has it all – corn bits, green peas, popped beans, nuts, etc.
Cheesedog. Remember those barrels covered with powder cheese and on the package were B1 and B2 of Bananas in Pajamas?
Pritos Ring. Aminin mo, nagsuot ka rin ng Pritos Ring sa daliri mo. Haha!
Cheezums. (Did I get the spelling right?) If my memory serves me right, this corn snack comes in green package. It’s like the cheaper version of Chiz Curls.
This one’s not a ‘mamiso’ but it kind of belongs to this list. Shing-aling. When was the last time you ate shing-aling? That crispy brown sticks that are so addicting especially with vinegar and chopped chilli pepper! I’m sure those who commute on a bus see this one everyday.
And as I’m writing this post, I’m eating this ‘mamiso’ called Crispy Tilapia, a kropeck snack which I often see here in our house.
So there you have it, our list of “pinakapatok na mamiso sa kanto” or the top one-peso junk foods then and now. Remember, there’s nothing wrong in eating these junk foods as long as you know how much and how often you should be munching these.
:)…thank you :)..
natandaan nyo pa ba ang baltik?pom poms, winner, ikazen, char at nut is kapamilya at kapuso ni ding dong. Di ko ma recall ang iba.
