Governor Vilma Santos-Recto went home with bundles of dollar bills from her recent trip to North America. It was not her talent fee from her recent blockbuster hit “In My Life” but was actually donations collected for typhoon Ondoy’s victims.
Gov. Santos-Recto was on official leave when typhoon Ondoy hit the country. The governor was about to cut short her 5-city tour for the international premiere of “In My Life” produced by ABS-CBN to personally attend to the needs of Ondoy victims in Batangas. But ABS-CBN made an offer to give a dollar from each of the tickets sold for the movie premiere.
Because of this, and the Filipino communities who wanted to meet her, the governor stayed for her trip. The cash donations amounted to about PhP300 thousand apart from the 1 dollar per ticket share that ABS-CBN will be depositing to a bank account intended for typhoon assistance program.
Moreover, Gov. Santos-Recto announced that she would double the total amount collected and would allot a part of it for the Mega Manila victims of Ondoy and the Northern Luzon casualties of Pepeng.
Due to the succeeding calamities that caused massive destruction to the lives of the Filipinos, Gov. Santos-Recto appealed to all Batanguenos to seriously take part on the environmental obligations that everybody must carry out in the fight against global warming/climate change.
