If you’re a fan of Kapamilya actress Anne Curtis, you must have heard of her latest feat — exposure on the Tyra Banks show, America’s Next Top Model: The British Invasion.
Filipino designer, Francis Libiran, will be part of an upcoming episode in which the competing models of the season will wear his creations. Anne, donned in Francis Libiran’s creations, was photographed by famed fashion photographer, Mark Nicdao. And probably to showcase more of his works, the episode will flash Anne’s photos in gowns by Libiran.
So who’s the Batangueño responsible for Francis and Anne’s ANTM feature? That’s Michael Carandang.
Michael Carandang is the Filipino producer of Tyra Banks’s reality model search America’s Next Top Model (ANTM). It’s like the Superbowl of fashion models, in case you haven’t watched even a single episode.
Michael is from Tanauan City and has been working in the US for 10 years as a TV producer. He flies back home every year to visit his family. A proud Batangueño, and in his Twitter account this is his description: TV producer sa America/ Astig pusong Pinoy! MC79 Productions.
He is the one responsible in featuring Filipino talents in ANTM, with of course, the nods of the bosses. Michael creates the bridge for Filipinos to invade and showcase their ingenuity in the famous long-running reality model search.
It was because of him that the works of Michael Cinco and Oliver Tolentino were featured on the show. Bench Body was showcased in ANTM’s Cycle 17 and had model/VJ Georgina Wilson as stylist.
The good thing about Michael Carandang is the passion he puts in opening doors for Filipinos and make them be known for their own talent and world-class creations. This guy must have been heaven sent for these Filipino talents.
I’ll try to get to know more about Michael. Good thing he still speaks Filipino. I wonder if he has puntong Ala Eh! Haha. So if you are from Tanauan City and you know this guy quite well, share some stories with us. We’d like to hear more about Michael’s life here in Batangas.
With everything that you have accomplished, hats off to you, kababayan!
