The University of Northeastern Philippines (UNEP) will bestow Governor Vilma Santos-Recto an honorary degree of Doctor of Humanities because of her exceptional contributions in the Philippine cinema and in public service. The honorary degree will be awarded to the Star for All Seasons and Batangas governor tomorrow, November 20, 2009 at UNEP gym.

UNEP President, Atty. Remelisa Alfelor-Moraleda, said the bestowment of the honorary degree was approved by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Feb. 11, 2009. She said the Doctor of Humanities degree shall be given to Gov. Vi for being an embodiment of an empowered woman in both the world of showbusiness and politics.

Delicia Alfelor-Tibi, UNEP Executive Vice-President was quoted saying, “In politics, there are no scripts, no rehearsals, no cuts or retakes, here she is to be judged for her worth beyond the help of makeup, props and sets, magical lights and special effects. Here she is to be measured by the strength of character, drive for competence, and will for compassion.”
