Visayan Forum Foundation Inc., Combating Modern Day Slavery – Kasambahay Updates (Batangas City)

Mga Batang Kasambahay, Balik na sa paaralan!

After years of “Batang Kasambahay, Balik Eskwela Tungo sa Magandang Kinabukasan” campaign, headed by Msgr. Boy Oriondo, 110 kasambahay or what most people call “yaya” are now back to school.

May 2003 when the said campaign was launched. As mentioned, Msgr. Boy Oriondo of SUMAPI and Visayan Forum -Kasambahay Center in cooperation with Batangas Partners on Child Domestic Workers, started this project for the City’s young domestic helpers.

Meanwhile, Immaculate Concepcion Basilica, St. Euphrasia and St. Rita parishes actively supported the aforementioned program. Injected in homilies are calls for support for these young kasambahay who also have the right to be educated and soon become professionals.

“Malaki ang itinaas na bilang ng mga bata at kabataang kasambahay ang nakabalik sa paaralan. Ayon sa kabuuang bilang na mga bata at kabataang kasambahay na nakalap ng Visayan Forum – Kasambhay Center para sa taong 2003 ng may bilang na 60 batang kasambahay na nag-aaral sa Batangas National High School, 60 batang kasambahay sa University of Batangas at 57 na mga kabataang kasambahay naman sa St. Bridget College, marami pang bilang ang di pa naitatala sa paaralan ng Golden Gate College, Lyceum at sa Batangas State University. “ – Visayan Forum
