Batangas “green” task forces hold seminar

The multi-sectoral provincial Task Forces Taal Lake and Likas Yaman held a seminar and planning workshop last January 27 and 28 for the purpose of preparing and strengthening the capabilities of its members as they are about to carry out its duties and responsibilities anew for 2011.

Focused on environmental law enforcement, the seminar was organized and conducted by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region IV-A, Batangas Provincial Government, the environmental law firm Tanggol Kalikasan and the international environmental group Pusod, Inc.

As genuine acts of partnership, all member-agencies of Task Force Taal Lake were represented in the activity, while, for Task Force Likas Yaman, only the Land Transportation Office was not able to send a delegate. Also present during the workshop were three of the municipal mayors of the localities around Taal Lake, namely: Hon. Zenaida Mendoza of Talisay, Hon. Epifanio Sandoval of San Nicolas and Hon. Glorioso Martinez of Agoncillo.

Prov. Administrator Victor M. Reyes, who chairs both task forces, opened the formal sessions with his discussion on the State of the Environmental Law Enforcement in the province of Batangas, Vision for the Environmental Law Enforcement, and an Overview of the Creation of the Environmental Task Forces. He also led the delegation from the provincial capitol, represented by the Provincial Public Order and Safety Services Office, Provincial Gov’t-Environment and Natural Resources Office and the Provincial Information Office.

Other resource persons and facilitators for the successful workshop were DENR-PENRO, Oliver B. Viado; Community Environment and Natural Resources Officer (CENRO) for Batangas City, Laudemir S. Salac; CENRO for Calaca, Eriberto B. Saños; DENR-Environmental Management Bureau’s Luisa M. Garcia; Provincial Prosecutor’s Office representative, Atty. Juan “Johncee” Manalo; Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-Region IVA’s Ricardo Cachuela, Jr.; and Tanggol Kalikasan’s president, Atty. Ma. Paz “Ipat” Luna, and chairman, Atty. Asis G.
