It’s a green day today! The team spent the rest of the day with the people of SM City Batangas as we celebrate Earth Day 2010.
The afternoon program served as the highlight of the Earth Day at SM Batangas. The first part was the ceremonial turn-over of 10 Million Movement to Save Mother Earth (10MM campaign of DENR). This was done by Mr. Jose Elmer Bascos, director of Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office and Ms. Gemina Buenaflor, SM Batangas Assistant Mall Manager, lead the other SM admin employees.
Following was the Nokia Cellphone Waste Campaign where broken mobile phones, chargers, and batteries were disposed of in a Nokia bin. SM Batangas admin officers were the first ones who put their old broken phones in the bin and will then be disposed of properly. Improper disposal of cellphone parts and chargers might bring harmful chemical emissions to the environment.
Ms. Mildred Cepillo then shared valuable points on how to save Mother Earth as part of the 10 MM campaign of DENR. Tips and Talks on How to Live a Greener Life reminded the participants on simple yet important ways to protect the environment.
Before the program concluded, Mr. Jose Bascos turned-over the saplings to SM City Batangas administration employees. These saplings were from the First Gas Power Corporation and OCVAS. This is surely a great contribution for the protection of Mother Earth. If you want to do something worthwhile, with a long-term effect – plant a tree.
Other Earth Day activities at SM City Batangas were the Green Film Festival at Cinema 4, Trash to Cash Recycling Market, Eco Fair, and the On-The-Spot Painting Contest with the theme: “Save Taal Lake, Now!”.
Congratulations to SM City Batangas for these commendable events to celebrate Earth Day. If we want a better place to live in, let’s do our part. We can be heroes in our own humble ways.
