Back in the days when there’s no computer or video games, the young ones’ source of recreation comes from cultural games or what we call ‘palaro ng lahi’.
Have you ever played patintero, luksong baka, or luksong tinik? You’re lucky enough if you did. I bet lots of memories on the streets were generated from your childhood.
Last July 17, Palaro ng Lahi transpired in Batangas City which was participated by students from the locality. Here’s what happened in that fun-filled event.

Bagamat mas popular sa mga kabataan ngayon ang mga laro kagaya ng basketball at iba pang sports , sinisikap pa ring ng pamahalaang lungsod ng Batangas na buhayin ang mga katutubong laro bilang bahagi ng mayamang kultura ng mga Pilipino kung kayat muling idinaos ang Palaro ng Lahi na nilhukan ng mga estudyante sa lungsod.
Ang mga larong ito ay sipa, singki, kadang kadang, patintero, sack race, tayakad at sabong. May 8 elementary schools, 11 high schools ang sumali sa naturang palaro.
Ayon kay Philip Baroja Chairman of the Committee na Palaro ng Lahi , layunin ng patimpalak na ito na imulat ang mga kabataan sa kahalagahan ng kulturang Batangenyo at maipag patuloy ng mga kabataan ang tradisyong palaro.
Ang mga nanalo sa larong patintero para sa sekondarya ay ang Paharang, Conde Labac at Navera para sa 1st, 2nd at 3rd, sa Tayakad ay ang Pedro S. Tolentino NHS, BNHS, Balete/North, sa Kadang –kadang, Navera, Talumpok, at Pedro Tolentino Memorial NHS, Sabong, Talumpok, Conde at Balete .
Para sa elementary ang nanalo sa sipa ay sina, Jesiah Mendoza, 1st place, Diether Aguda 2nd, at Gabrielle Perez 3rd place, para sa singki, nanguna si Dana Alyssa Baja, pangalawa si Michaela de la Roca, at pangatlo si Mica Janine Arellano.
Nasungkit naman ng new district ang 1st place, east district ang 2nd at south district ang 3rd place sa sack race girls team sa High School level, sa boys team naman ay ang coastal, new district at east district para sa 1st, 2nd at 3rd. (Liza Perez Delos Reyes, PIO Batangas City
