Congratulations to SM City Lipa for the citation given by Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Lipa. Let’s go green!

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) of Lipa City passed a resolution recognizing SM City Lipa for its environmental protection programs and initiatives for environmental issues awareness.
The resolution was set through the motion of Councilor Avior Rocafort, committee chair for the Environment of Lipa SP and duly seconded by Councilor Merlo Silva.
The award enumerated the environmental projects of SM such as:
Trash to Cash which was launched last September 2007 which designates every first Friday and Saturday of the month as days to sell recyclable materials and other solid wastes to DENR accredited haulers.
Green Bag which was launched last January 2009 to lessen the use of plastics at the SM Supermarket.
Nokia Trash Bin which was launched last September 2009 for used cellular phones and cell phone battery junks to appropriately dispose of them.
Green Film Fest last February 10 which featured four film documentaries about the environment, shown for free at its cinema.
Green Retail Agenda which is a symposium for tenants and contractors which taught them how to make their store earth-friendly.
Mall operational initiatives such as the use of trash segregation system, waterless urinals and recycling of water used in cooling towers and flushing waters were also cited.
According to Rocafort, the award is to thank SM City Lipa for initiating these environmental programs which are in line with Hon. Mayor Gozos' OLG Leads Program. Lipa City Environment and Natural Resources Office headed by its OIC Ms. Lorna Africa, likewise appreciated SM City Lipa for giving unsolicited efforts towards environmental conservation.
Ms. Liza F. Dimaculangan, Assistant Mall Manager of SM City Lipa received the citation. According to Dimaculangan, “Doing business must not be just plain doing business, it must be done with responsibility towards the environment, people and society.”
