The other day, in search of our afternoon merienda here in the office, I strolled down the public market and walking in front of me were three grade school kids with their moms. I happen to overhear their conversation.
Kiddo #1: “Ang dami naming visitor kanina. Kayo? Ay, visitors pala”
Kiddo #2: “Wala”
Kiddo #1: “Si Sir ___ kasi may dinalang visitors sa amin”
Kiddo #3: (tahimik lang, busy sa pagtatampisaw sa tubig sa kalsada)
Then I suddenly remember how we were back in grade school. “Goood mooooorrning, visitor. Maaabuuuhaay!” These words, with the lengthening of the syllables, are what we used to utter in greeting anyone who would come in to class.
Seeing kids today makes me think of how we were before. Did a lot of things change? Are they also looking forward to “lock sessions” or may ganun pa ba kaya?
When you look back on how you were when you’re still a grade schooler, how will you describe yourself? Your life?
Things were much less complicated before. Things were simple; life was easier.
And (maybe) just like those kids who were walking in front of me that afternoon, i just hate the rain when it’s time to go home.
And (maybe) just like them, I like it when there’s a classroom visitor especially if I still have to finish an assignment before the teacher gets to check my work.
