Setting aside her status as the head of Batangas and as the Star for All Seasons, Governor Vilma Santos-Recto opted to donate her party budget to victims of typhoons Ondoy and Pepeng instead of having a grand celebration for her birthday today, November 3.
The governor wanted a simple and selfless celebration and “do something that is noble” for the Batangenyos who went through terrible damage from the recent typhoons.
A mass was expected to be held at the Provincial Capitol and the guests were encouraged to bring relief goods and other forms of donations instead of bringing gifts for the governor.
Governor Vi will give out rubber boats to coastal towns in the province which the local government units and the provincial disaster coordinating council could use in emergencies and relief operations.
Public Information Chief Jing Segismundo said that “the governor and her council as well as the local officials are constantly coordinating with each other to put disaster preparedness on top of the agenda of the provincial government.”
