Braving the New Normal by helping others in the time of the pandemic

Last Monday, August 17, 2020, days after postponing the start of classes on August 24, 2020, DepEd Philippines announced the adjusted dates of 2020-2021 School Calendar. October 5, 2020, will be the start of the classes and will end on June 16, 2020.

The adjustment of the school calendar will give more time for teachers and schools to be familiar with online platforms they can use and prepare learning materials for students and be an effective educator. It will also give time for parents to save for new electronic gadgets needed as most schools will be implementing blended learning where students learn via electronic and online media as well as traditional face-to-face teaching. Although some may find it hard to continue studying and buy the gadgets as we all know some are still affected by the pandemic caused by COVID19.

This is where FAITH Alumni Organization in partnership with FAITH Center for Extension Services and Abot-Kamay PH (youth-lead charity program that focuses on bridging the gap between people who are in need and people who have the heart to help) created the “BraveConnect”.

BraveConnect is a platform where we can build bridges for underprivileged students of FAITH Colleges and connect them to generous individuals and/or groups so that they can push through with their studies online. To ensure that no student gets left behind as FAITH Colleges shifts to a blended-learning approach, BraveConnect is raising funds to provide underprivileged First Asians with access to the internet and technology.

“With the present dilemma with the sudden shift towards online distance learning, a huge portion of our student population faced with a serious predicament—online schooling and its requirements, and while some were privileged enough to dive in this new trend of education, others can’t.”
Angelika Mae G. Malabuyo, BraveConnect Co-Founder

How can we be a part of this initiative?

Donate.
No amount is too small to give. We are accepting any amount of monetary donations to help fund the data (load) packages we will be sent to our chosen beneficiaries. For just PHP 500, one student can stay connected to the internet for a whole month.

Lend some spare mobile devices.
Apart from the lack of stable internet connection, the unavailability of smartphones, tablets, and laptops is among the greatest hindrances to e-learning. If you have a spare tablet or laptop device that can be used for online classes, you can opt to lend it to needy students.

Share our cause.
Sharing is caring. Help us spread the word by telling your friends and family about this initiative. Together, let us help those who are in need so that no student will get left behind.
