CALABARZON Cops to conduct prayer vigil for May elections

Fueled with the desire to have an honest, orderly, and peaceful elections this coming on May 10, members of the Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) Regional Police Office launched a weekly prayer vigil.

The prayer vigil that started on April 14 will continue every Wednesday morning until the last week of this month, said Superintendent Jerry Protacio, regional police information officer.
“It is non-sectarian. Religious leaders are to be invited to preside over the Mass and program,” he said in a telephone interview on Sunday.
The prayer vigil is held simultaneously at the provincial and municipal police offices in the region.

In a statement, Chief Supt. Rolando Añonuevo, regional police director, said the vigil aimed “to inculcate the importance of prayer in every (police) personnel and the constituents they serve to seek the blessing of the Almighty God for the successful conduct of Honest, Orderly and Peaceful Elections (Hope),” a campaign of the Philippine National Police Headquarters in Camp Crame.

PNP Director General Jesus Verzosa earlier vowed that the police would not take any illegal order that would compromise the results of the elections.

Protacio said no incident of election-related violence has been reported in Calabarzon since the filing of the certificates of candidacy by politicians aspiring for local positions.

“This is because of the efficient implementation of the election gun ban. Our region has the most number of arrested gun ban violators in the Philippines,” he said.
