From the streets to the stage: Lipeño Busker to perform alongside famous artists at Batangas Lakelands

James Andrew, a member of the BuskTangas— a collective of buskers from Batangas— is a budding singer-guitarist whose video uploads are now gaining traction on various social media platforms.

He is one of the few finger-style Filipino guitarists online and his intricate and impressive approach to the guitar —- one that utilizes the guitar as a percussion, a rhythm, a bass, and a lead guitar all at once— paired with his charisma-laden voice is definitely a performance to behold.

James got hooked on the guitar at age seven. He started out as the usual bedroom guitarist and had himself influenced by musicians seen on the internet.

The Lipeño native first performed publicly when he caught wind of a busking event that was being put together at the nearby Plaza Independencia.

He then found and relished the joys of performing in front of a crowd. Consequently, he joined BuskTangas whose primary goal was to normalize busking (the activity of playing music in the street or another public place for voluntary donations) in the Philippines.

James now frequents indie-produced art and performance events.

James Andrew is slated to perform alongside Yeng Constantino, Faith Dance Company, and EJ Salazar at Batangas Lakelands on November 19.

Alab ng Pasko Concert is Batangas Lakelands’ kick-off event for their 2nd installment of the Christmas Lights of Batangas Festival.
