DOST’s Hack4AProgress Summons Student Software Developers, Promotes Collaboration among Education, Industry and Government

The Department of Science and Technology (DOST), through its Hack4aProgress Contest, invited all tech experts, software developers, and whiz kids aged 18 and up to participate in its hackathon event to be held at Sol Y Viento, Calamba, Laguna on September 23-25,2024.

hack4aprogress.dostcalabarzon.ph posted a preview of the challenges to be encountered by the participants which also center on producing a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) that can be adopted and implemented by the Local Government Units for Smart Sustainable Communities.

In an interview with WowBatangas.com, DOST R4A Assistant Director for Technical Operations Francisco R. Baquilla III remarked that Hack4AProgress promotes collaboration and unity between the private and public sectors: “Mahalang maisama dito ang mga nasa akademya tulad ng mga nasa Higher Education Institutions…to generate solutions for the LGUs kasi ‘yun din naman talaga yung kanilang expertise (science and technology)”. Sa aming part naman as a government agency, we long to provide an avenue para mag-collaborate ang government, ang industry, at ang academe,” he furthered.

DOST hosted 26 teams with a maximum of four members hailing from CALABARZON. Ideally, the website posted, each team should include a Project Manager, Front/Backend Developer, Data Researcher/s, and Business Analyst/Marketing Specialist.

The top three entries will win 120,000 Pesos with a grand prize of 70,000 Pesos plus seed funding from DOST.
