Hip Fashion Trends of Our Childhood Days

I bumped into a Shine article on Yahoo, talking about “The inexplicable fashion fads from our childhoods” and it got so nostalgic that a lot of my own childhood memories came in to say hello again.

What were the fashion items that you just can’t get enough when you were young? Fashion continuously evolves. But if you’re paying quite a keen observation, a fad or a trend just keeps coming back. What’s hip in the ’70s can become a favorite of the generation Y.

Three of these items are taken from that Yahoo article as they also became popular here in the Philippines. These would also reflect the generation to which I belong, haha. Well, let’s just see who will raise their hands with me. Wink.

Slap Bracelet

I wonder if teachers honestly hate this item because of the slapping noise these bracelets create. But this is one cool item my cousins and I used to collect. There were lots of cool designs and it can also work as a ruler or something. Can anyone please bring the slap bracelets (or snap bracelets) back?

Jelly Bag

This sort of gives you some points in the fashion-o-meter scale. Jelly bags for young girls before were like LV and Marc Jacobs bags for women now. Girls get so excited putting in their stuffs then showing their jelly bags off.

Stick-On Earrings

These are the cheapest yet prettiest way for young school girls to be fashionable. I remember buying stick-on earrings every afternoon on my way home. The hearts and stars are personal favorites. Kikay!

Candy-colored Pants

It made another come back two or three years ago. Bright yellow, apple green, fruity orange colored pants were such huge hit when I was in grade school.

Spice Girls Sneakers

Remember the hit girl group of the ’90s? The Spice Girls were like every girl’s fashion icons before. Aside from giving strong music influences, they also inspired a lot of girls, young and old, to express their personalities through fashion. And they got us hooked with platform sneakers!

Too bad I can’t remember anything for the guys! I asked my brother who also can’t recall any item either as he reasoned out that guys don’t have fashion sense when they were young. Okay, fair enough. And I won’t count his first answer (which was rubber band). 🙂

Guys, let your voices be heard!
