We cannot deny that every Filipino in almost every corner of the country is familiar to the Philippine Azkals, for this team hyped up our countrymen’s passion for football. But who among of you have heard the Muzang Futsal Team?
To make a better understanding, futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller pitch and mainly played indoors. It is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper and played on a hard court surface delimited by lines. It is also played with a smaller ball with less bounce than a regular football. (Wikipedia.org)
Futsal, an unusual team sport in the Philippines is the team’s goal to promote in different schools from key cities of the archipelago. In fact, Daniel Matsunaga, a model and actor, is one of the members of this team. Muzang Futsal Team is composed of 15 members but only 8 of them were present during the mall tour.
The Muzangs, on their mall tour at the SM City Batangas Event Center last November 25th, made a demo of the sport which was indeed a good way to teach futsal to the kids and athletes present during the event.
The team members picked out some players for the demo. At first, the game started between the kids and the two members from the Muzang Team. Each kid has a Muzang partner except for Luis, the goalkeeper. After that, the high school girls present had their chance to play with the Muzangs as well.
It was very exciting when Barako SC, the winner in the previous game, created an intense match among the Muzangs who partnered the participants. It was obvious that they really enjoyed playing futsal with the team members.
“Kakaiba ang mga skills na natutunan ko at sobrang nakakabilib ang teamwork na ipinakita ng Muzang,” said Danilyn Danao, one of the lucky participants from the high school girls picked out by a Muzang member.
Almost all of the students and fans there got a chance for an autograph from and also took pictures with the Muzang Futsal Team.
Like any other sports played by Filipinos, futsal may have a good future in the Philippines. Learning futsal and supporting the Muzang Futsal Team could be the very first steps to make this thing possible.
