When I was in grade school, my cousins and I were often invited to join the Santacruzan. Some of us were shy but most loved the experience. Even I did enjoy those Santacruzan days because I loved dressing up eversince.
And then I suddenly became reluctant to join the sagala when I reached high school.
Another May event we used to enjoy is Flores De Mayo. Geez, it was so embarassing, I couldn’t imagine myself during those days! We used to perform after the alay (offering of flowers to the image of the Virgin Mary) like we were some of the disbanded girl groups and boy groups at that time.
My younger cousins are spending their summer vacation here in Batangas and I want them to feel what it’s like to be part of a Santacruzan and Flores De Mayo. These are two of the most celebrated religious events in the country. And I think being part in any of these two events will allow you to embrace your being Filipino, a Catholic Filipino.
