Ang Mga Jejemons vs. Jejemonbusters

Three weeks ago, I’ve learned of this new term from Vice Ganda. And it was only after a week when I realized that the term was a coined word for a new crowd here in the Philippines that has been existing for quite a long time now – the Jejemons. Haha.

Are you one of them?

What exactly is a ‘jejemon’? A person is now termed as such if he types words this way: “Eow pohw. MuzZtah nAh?” and laughs this way “Jejejeje..” This ‘jejetyping’ has been part of Filipinos’ (only some) texting manner for quite some time now. Hindi na bago. Yun nga lang, parang naging epidemya na.

Jejemon Invasion

These what they call ‘jejemons’ are not only visible on the texting world but on online chatrooms and social networks as well. Whoever tagged them as ‘jejemons’ must have been really annoyed of jejetyping, haha.

I don’t anything against these jejemons except that I find it hard communicating with them. Minsan nga naisip ko, ganito din kaya sila magsalita? Oh my, it’s another great feat for Pinoys, haha. During my internship days, I often encounter students who would send me text messages greeting me with their jejetyped words. Malala pa kapag group message! Paano kaya sila nagkakaintindihan?

Hindi kaya sila nahihirapan magtext? Think of this, in texting, you shorten words to save space so as to save na rin a peso in your balance kapag nagkasya na sa isang page lang ang message mo. But for jejemons, kabaliktaran ang ginagawa nila. Ang simpleng ‘musta?’ ginagawang ‘muzztah?’. I wonder how grammarians are reacting to this new breed of online chatting and mobile texting fanatics. Facebook people are now on the hype of banning or ‘killing’ these jejemons. Hence, they are called jejemonbusters. Haha.

Is this just a fad that soon will eventually fade away just as how punctuation marks put an end to every sentence? Or will they continue to invade the entire written universe as time grows old? Imagine having a type of contemporary literature under the jejemon influence. What?!

Pano kaya ang Batanggenyong jejemon? May punto pa rin kaya? 🙂
