Celebrating Christmas Without Overspending

xmas saleTime passes really fast and now we are starting to count the days before Christmas again. I’ve been hearing Christmas carols since the first day of September and that signals preparation for the holiday season. And when you say holiday season, it means you have to stretch out your budget for Christmas shopping! No matter how thrifty you are, you can’t alienate yourself from Christmas parties and gift giving (unless you want to be a scrooge).

As early as now, you must begin preparing your budget or think of easy ways on how to celebrate Christmas without getting close to bankruptcy. You wouldn’t want to start the next year with a zero-balance bank account. I have thought of some ways on how to celebrate Christmas without overspending. I hope it would help you, too.

Since you still have three months to save money for Christmas, do it diligently. Do little sacrifices. I know it’s very tempting to buy yourself new shoes since malls are generously having sale during BER-months but think of the presents you have to buy for your loved ones (worse if you have godchildren expecting toys and goodies from you). Refrain from pigging out. Make packed lunch a cool trend. This way you can still save a few bills instead of eating out on fastfood chains or restos.

Have you started saving bucks for your Christmas budget? Utilize your accounting skills. Save a part of your salary for your allowance, for your monthly bills, and for your screaming Christmas fund.

Have a “My Gift Recipients” list and decide on what you have to give to them. Should you buy personalized gift items for each one or buy something in bulk and have “generalized” presents for everyone? Either way, you have to consider your budget. There are relatively cheap buys during this season. All you have to have is the patience to search for these wonderful cheap goodies. Opt for flea markets or tiangges and learn the art of bargaining.
