It only takes one hour to do your part in saving Mother Earth.
Tomorrow, March 26 from 8:30 to 9:30pm, everyone is asked to participate in the Earth Hour. By turning off the lights for one hour, we can do our personal pledge against the worldwide battle on climate change.
Spearheaded by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Earth Hour activity started in 2007 and will now be participated by 128 countries all over the world, including the Philippines.
Turn off the lights and contemplate on how you can help protect the environment beyond this Earth Hour activity. If you can spend one or two hours roaming around Facebook or interacting with the world on Twitter, think how one hour of turning your laptop and your bedroom light could do for the world.
It’s not really a matter of sacrificing because protecting the Earth is our obligation as humans living and interacting on this planet. In every form of economic growth and industrial development, there will always be downsides which bring forth destructive effects on the environment. It’s sad but it’s a known fact. And we have to deal with the consequences.
The Climate Change Commission says that participating in the Earth Hour is “an opportunity to reflect on what we can do to reverse the effects of climate change”. And this year, the Earth Hour organization pushes us to go beyond the hour. Make a stand against climate change and participate in the move to protect the environment beyond the Earth Hour.
As an individual enjoying every turn of the hour on this planet, what can you do to protect the Earth from further damage?
We’ve only got one planet, one space to live in. And it only takes one hour a year to show how much you care for the place you’re living in.
