They may not be the most expressive beings on earth. They may look like in- house goons. They might fancy old school (obscure) music. They may, at times, be self conceited. They may have monopoly of the TV (read: boxing and basketball). They may not know how to cook. Their bellies may be as round as Majinbu’s. They may drink a lot. They may smoke a lot. They may uhm… chiks a lot.
And they may not be exactly as sweet as our moms.
But hey, forgive them.
They are men.
Profuse counts of testosterone could possibly overwhelm their egos.
It is only in their nature, so to speak.
But also, these men are, most of the time, bread winners of their respective families.
These men are more than willing to go overseas and drain their muscles out on jobs with inhumane working hours just so we could be enrolled in a decent school. These are men who cannot sleep when the little ones have nothing to eat come breakfast time. These are men who cannot stop thinking of means to uplift the status of the family. These men are the proudest in his son’s/ daughter’s every achievement.
These men are whom our mothers call upon when times go beyond roughness.
These men are our Fathers.
Our daddies, our papas, our tatays, our dadas, our (put any sweet word here)….
They may be the most snobbish person alright, but deep inside the softest gallows of their hearts lie eternal love for their families.
Here are some quotes I found when I hovered on the net. Just so we all know how big a role they play on our lives:
He didn’t tell me how to live; he lived, and let me watch him do it. ~Clarence Budington Kelland
A truly rich man is one whose children run into his arms when his hands are empty. ~Author Unknown
Father! – to God himself we cannot give a holier name. ~William Wordsworth
Love and fear. Everything the father of a family says must inspire one or the other. ~Joseph Joubert
One father is more than a hundred Schoolemasters. ~George Herbert, Outlandish Proverbs, 1640
Blessed indeed is the man who hears many gentle voices call him father! ~Lydia M. Child, Philothea: A Romance, 1836

The greatest gift I ever had
Came from God; I call him Dad!
~Author Unknown
Get them something special!
Their brand of cigarettes or whiskey or a treat to their favorite diners would surely do.
I suppose even a sincere greeting alone could lighten their day up.
So give love and affection where love and affection are due.
Happy Father’s Day to all the Tatays out there!
May you all live 200 years more. 🙂
