LMMC’s Preventive Action towards COVID-19

The 2019 Novel Coronavirus causes sickness and deaths to many people around the world and spreads fear to the majority, now named as the Corona Virus Disease-19. Symptoms of possible cases are fever, cough, colds, breathing difficulties and other respiratory symptoms.

Lipa Medix Medical Center, a known health institution in Lipa City for its quality healthcare and wellness services, takes preventive action towards COVID-19. LMMC makes sure that its entrances and exits for patients, visitors, hospital doctors, and its employees are well-inspected. Body temperature is checked and a health declaration checklist form is given to everyone entering the hospital. This checklist includes questions regarding travel history to China, history of exposure with a confirmed case, and its validity is within 7 days after being issued.

According to Grenardson Naredo, Senior Officer for Hospital Inspection Control, once there is a case observe that a visitor is sick but no travel history, he is allowed to enter the hospital and subject for check-up if the visitor has a travel history particularly to China and other affected countries, he is advised for a “home quarantine” for fourteen (14) days and classified as Patient Under Monitoring where checklist will be provided to him every day and will be asked for updates by the City Health Specialist, and in case the visitor both has to travel history to China and got symptoms he will be assisted to the hospitals’ isolation room and advised if wanted a self-quarantine.

“Elderly and kids with weak immune systems are more prone to such viruses, that they need to be well-protected and not be too exposed. Our hands must be cleaned regularly with sanitizers. Those who have coughs are advised to wear masks when in public. Surgical masks for prevention and N95 masks for those who are sick, masks made of usual cloth are not advisable because molecules of virus can still enter. Everyone is advised to be extra aware of their surroundings”, Dr. Joseph Glenn A. Dimatatac, MD specialized in Internal Medicine-Diabetes and Chairman for Hospital Inspection Control of LMMC added.

In times that serious virus-like COVID-19 is observed, prevention is the best thing to apply. LMMC is also in cooperation with the Department of Health and Local Health Unit in Lipa City to make sure the hospital follows the standards and proper procedures in handling confirmed cases. LMMC is equipped with knowledge, facility and effectively dealing with the prevention of such viruses within the institution.
