How was your weekend? The weekend brought a couple of highs and lows for us. And since it’s Monday, I’ve browsed quite a number of seemingly ‘manic Monday’ posts on Facebook early this morning but hey, at least you have another week to face.
HIGHS
Nonito “The Filipino Flash” Donaire, Jr. won both World Boxing Council and World Boxing Organization bantamweight crowns after defeating Fernando Montiel of Mexico yesterday in Mandalay Bay Resort in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Montiel was defeated thru an early TKO on the second round of the fight. Many boxing analysts were not expecting that the fight would end that way as they were anticipating a good fight, probably a tough one. Montiel, being a world champion, was presumed to give Donaire a hard time. Apparently, the power punches of the Filipino Flash were insurmountable.
With Donaire’s victory, our nation once again got faces of uplifted spirits and roaring cheers as another Filipino showed how it is to be a true world champion.

Chinese government delayed the execution of three Filipino OFWs who were convicted for drug trafficking in China. Vice President Jejomar Binay went to Beijing to personally bring the letter from President Noynoy Aquino appealing for clemency.
The three convicted Filipinos were set to be executed today and tomorrow. Law experts claimed that death penalties, when delayed, may be set after two years or may be lowered down to life imprisonment.
LOW
